On Monday, October 19, the Free State Seniors Golf Association held their monthly tournament at the Country Club at Woodmore. This will be our last event of the 2020 season and we hope that you will join us. Below is a brief synopsis of Woodmore. Since opening in 1981, the Arnold Palmer-designed 18 hole golf course has a distinguished reputation as one of the area’s most challenging and esteemed venues, as well as a favorite course for golf association events. Boasting nearly 7,100 yards from the championship tees, the course has hosted two MSGA Maryland Open Championships (Maryland’s most prestigious event), numerous USGA Senior Open and Amateur Qualifiers, and the 2007, 2008, 2009 PGA Nationwide Tour Event - Melwood Prince George’s County Open, and host site of the 2013 MSGA Maryland Amateur and has won high praise from skilled players of the Middle Atlantic region. The course record is 63 shot by PGA Tour player Ricky Barnes during the 2008 Nationwide Tour Event. In January 2008, the Club received the Golf Digest Architecture Award in recognition of outstanding design, from the editors of Golf Digest Magazine and the National Panel of Course Raters. The course was named among the 2013 Best Golf Courses in the State Of Maryland. The beautifully conditioned course features rolling fairways, challenging greens, and spectacular views. The golf course at Woodmore features a traditional layout, offering a variety of challenging holes. Maintained to the highest standards, the course meanders through the charming Woodmore community. With 42 acres of lakes integral to the challenge and design of the course, members enjoy golf and nature at its finest. While every hole is unique and memorable, our guests are nearly unanimous in declaring holes 3, 5, 9, and 15 among the most challenging and picturesque in the Mid-Atlantic. |
